CNN – Female genital mutilation: Why Egyptian girls fear the summer
I remember the first time that I heard about female genital mutilation. I was an undergraduate student at the University of Southern Maine. I was naive beyond belief. Iam sure that I had no idea how broad and destructive this practice was.
Over time, it has been increasingly clear that this practice is terrible in every way. It is amazing to see how pervasive this practice is twenty years later. I am pleased to see that progress is being made but shudder to think that millions of young girls are still subjected to the destruction of their bodies.
You can make a difference by educating yourself about the problem and being involved in efforts that advocate for children worldwide.
